character survey thing
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? He's both rather tall and rather thin for his age. Or rather, his tallness makes him look thin and lanky. He'll probably eventually grow into his height, but for now he looks a little awkward.
2. How old is he? Sixteen.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? He tries to hold himself well and will stand up straight if he's being conscious of it. If he's not, though, he'll naturally slouch a bit.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? He's in alright shape. Not great by any means, but not terrible. No chronic illnesses, but he did nearly die once of a very severe illness.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Tense, definitely. He's almost always worrying about something and that shows up in his movements.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? Apparently pretty attractive? Enough that he frequently gets girls at his school asking him out and developing crushes on him. That may also have to do with the fact that they perceive him to be a bad boy, though he totally isn't. In any case, Percy really doesn't think of his looks very often and he thinks he's really nothing special. Also that the bags under his eyes are pretty ugly.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? He's so pale, he's downright pale. This only makes his freckles pop out that much more.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. His hair color is a dull sort of brown. It's styled plainly. It's somewhat short but not spectacularly. It's a fairly average haircut all around. It's texture is probably pretty soft.
9. What color are his eyes? Bright green.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Very large bags underneath his eyes all the time. He never gets enough sleep ever.
11. What are his chief tension centers? His upper back and between his eyebrows.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? He dresses in business casual. Or, failing that, he'll wear at least a nice button up shirt with jeans. He feels as though he needs to look nice. They're in either bright colors, tastefully done, or in neutrals.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Yes, his clothes fit well and he's pretty comfortable in them.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? He doesn't have a job.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? He has a fairly smooth voice, in the higher range for a guy. It's not high-pitched by any means, though. He just doesn't have a deep baritone.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? He speaks as evenly as he can, but sometimes his words get tangled and come out too fast if he's flustered. And, again, he tries to speak easily and confidently but doesn't always succeed.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? "Well, I mean..." Not exactly a verbal tic, though. He just says it frequently.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? English and some Mandarin Chinese. (Haha, gosh, I forgot that I plotted that about him until literally JUST NOW.) He's pretty okay at it. Not fluent, but he could get by.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? If he's speaking to a Mandarin Chinese person???
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? He definitely needs to think about his words.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? He can be quite eloquent if he's given the chance. If he's under pressure or if his friends are being huge assholes (which is all the time), though, then he gets flustered and inarticulate.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? He's a fairly intelligent kid, book-wise. Not so much street-smart.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He needs time to deliberate. If in a pinch he could make a snap decision, but it probably wouldn't be a good one.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? He's more intuitive when dealing with people, at least. He's empathetic, so he'll do whatever he FEELS is best. With situations he'll sit down and be more logical and try to plan out a course of action. In the long term, he's an idealist. He really wants to believe that people are good at heart and that good exists in the world. Short term, he's more practical. He knows that short term plans won't really work based on an idealistic perspective and just focuses on thinking up things that make sense for the situation.
4. What kind of education has the character had? He's had a public education at a good public school. He's also been tutored extensively, especially on topics associated with business.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? He knows a lot about weather patterns! And loves learning about weather phenomena, in general. He also knows a lot about business, though he's still pretty shit at it. He's interested in the subject not for himself, but for his parent's sake.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Introvert.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? He is very even-tempered and patient. Very rarely will he actually get angry. He might get annoyed, but not severely. This is sort of a necessity when one has friends like Chris and Alice. Overall, he's someone who seems content on the outside. Often times he can get depressed and over stressed, however. He is a very driven individual.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? He's cautious, but tries to act natural and pleasant. Regardless, he will probably put his foot in his mouth at some point, because he usually does.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? React.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Flight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? He has a good sense of humor, a lot of things will make him laugh. He has a special appreciation for jokes at his expense, however, not exactly because he enjoys them naturally, but because he's had to learn to accept them due to their frequency.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Nah.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? His Uncle dying when he was seven. Every time his parents have come home to visit, but in particularly when they visited after he turned 15. Saving Chris' life, and thereby meeting him and Alice. Nearly dying of an illness because he accepted Chris' and Alice's mocking about how it wasn't really that bad. Nearly getting himself killed during the story because he couldn't fight a shadow person; it really highlighted to him how useless he was.
14. What does he fear? His parents' disappointment. Not being good enough, in general. Something happening to Chris or Alice. His fucking nightmares.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? To be able to successfully manage his parents' business when he needs to. He wants to be a businessman.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? He tends to hide how much he loves Disney from people.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Not too terribly great. They are very rarely home, instead off conducting international business deals. The reality is that they very easily could find time to come home, they just choose not to. When they do, they are often not satisfied with how Percy has been developing. Percy, meanwhile, just wants them to be proud of him and works extremely hard to please them.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? No siblings.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? He is very close to his Aunt. She actually raised him and was much more of a mother to him than his own mother. He was also extremely close to his Uncle before he died.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Nope.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Chris and Alice. He met them after he saved Chris from drowning in freezing water.
6. Does he have other close friends? Haha, no.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? He doesn't have trouble getting along with people, per say, but he doesn't really get close to people, either. People like him a lot, because he's a friendly and genuinely nice person, but he doesn't really open up enough to people to consider them friends.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Friends, probably.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? UH, technically single. Technically. It's complicated in unexpected ways.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Well, he's not married in the first place... But um, again technically not?
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? The person he's technically not in a relationship with. To both of those.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Kindness, compassion, intelligence, humor. Just a generally good personality.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? He doesn't have any, but in the future he would definitely like to have some.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Nope.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? He's probably a 1 or a 2. He's more interested in the ladies than the fellas (much to Alice's chagrin, no doubt) but I wouldn't rule out a relationship entirely.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? It's not important to him at all, really. He feels like he'd like to have it someday with a special someone, though.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? Nope nope nope.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? He's a Taurus and a Wood Pig. He fits a Taurus okay enough, same with Wood Pig. Obviously they're not exactly dead on or anything, but he has attributes of both.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? He's not either.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? No, he doesn't.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He's both tolerant and curious. He's not likely to judge someone because they have a different opinion than him.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? None, really.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? His family is pretty damn wealthy.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? Pretty high? It's not something he thinks about very often and doesn't particularly care about it.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? He lives in a large house within a gated community. His home is definitely his castle, he loves it there and spends a great deal of his time there.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Disney films.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? He doesn't do anything for a living, but he would like to go into business. He's not very good at it.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? He likes cloud gazing when he has the time. He studies pretty frequently, not for school, just for himself. He likes to play video games and to Skype with his friends.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? He tries to get balanced meals in every day. Doesn't tend to skip them and doesn't drink alcohol.

1. Color? Green.
2. Smell? Flowers, specifically flower arrangements.
